                            SHESPEAK:  SHE Knows

This section is dedicated to information that should be of interest to Black women -- information that you might have missed!

The treasures of Timbuktu ( an ancient, historic, intellectual center in Africa that was the site of the first university in the world) are under assault and in jeopardy of being lost to us.  Interestingly, the city was built up on a site where a woman stood sentry.

"According to lore, the town [of Timbuktu] sprung up in the 12th or 13th century around a well that was guarded by a woman known as Buktu.  At the crossroads of great Saharan trade routes, it rapidly became a center for the exchange of salt, gold, and slaves.  Leo Africanus, the 16th century Moorish traveler turned Papal diplomat, described a city brimming not only with 'many wells containing sweet water,' but a town where the 'the inhabitants are very rich.'"  Time World Global Spin

Winning is great, sure, but if you are really going to do something in life, the secret is learning how to lose. Nobody goes undefeated all the time.  If you can pick up after a crushing defeat, and go on to win again, you are going to be a champion someday."
